Blaring out the megaphone, the propaganda stream Authoritarian police state, out to re-educate Double think will dull the mind, coercion is supreme Sell out your neighbors, your best friend, hell, your whole family Oo yeah, the world is what you make it Til somebody breaks it Christian, Catholic, get in line, you must renounce your faith No more religion, only one true narrative, yeah There’s no God, in the sky, to smite your enemies If you don’t want no trouble, you’d better obey Take it from me, take it from me Not much going on today, I feel much the same Thought police are trawling, dangers on the way Evening raid, get your door kicked in, ain’t seen nothing yet They got eyes and ears around, you might be up next Drowning in their bullshit, saturate your brain You try running, bad luck, you can’t get away Authoritarian blues Authoritarian blues Authoritarian blues Authoritarian blues

Power Vacuum 02:23
Sometimes we all fall in line But most times we get left behind oh, struggle for power A vacuum will create instability, We’re in need of it Sunshine for our brainwashed eyes Convince us that he’s so divine oh, struggle for power A vacuum will create A crack to compromise And expose the lies
3.
Motherland 03:55
In the dead of night You may sacrifice If you don’t get found Burn the palace down Oh, no, he propped himself, up He says divine, will, made him supreme Can’t Change Bad Egg Born in the motherland Born in the motherland Born in the motherland Don’t forget your place Born in the motherland Born in the motherland Born in the motherland Don’t forget your place Oh, no, you keep your voice down For those who speak, out, torture and death Snow Flake Man Child Born in the motherland Born in the motherland Born in the motherland Don’t forget your place Born in the motherland Born in the motherland Born in the motherland Don’t forget your place Oh, no, he want us all to know We’re all expendable, and he is king Vile Snake Must Wait Might take a long long time But lie in wait, the day will come

Decide And tries The lord of flies Drinking from the corrupted fountain With a sacred cup No one loses right this time As one reaching for the stars Imbues a darker path He seems stronger And makes mans grip slip But only for a night As dawn will shine a new day And hit back with strength Defiled, but not tainted The people, they are determined The river of our history flows And you sir, are being ousted
5.
Exiled 04:19
Exile Denial Apprehend me I don’t think you can It’s a short run vacation When I do return, heads will roll May they never catch me Surely die if they do So I’ll run forever if I have to They will try replace me Surely after the coup They’ll install a puppet and claim democracy Chain me up, send back Full accountability Public execution You gotta be joking Never too much power in the hands of a man Power over people Restoration will be had Those who turned against me Those who think I’m a fool I will not forgive the blatant treachery I will wait in exile for the sycophants to align I still have some allies on the inside Chain me up, send back Full accountability Public execution You gotta be joking Never too much power in the hands of a man Power over people Restoration will be had What goes up will always come down What goes up will always come down What goes up will always come down What goes up will always come down What goes up will always come down What goes up will always come down Watch your back and never come back You’ll be in exile Don’t underestimate me and my iron resolve I will have you all back under my control There’ll be no escaping, re-education for all You will learn to love me or go crazy Chain me up, send back Full accountability Public execution You gotta be joking Never too much power in the hands of a man Power over people Restoration will be had What goes up will always come down What goes up will always come down What goes up will always come down What goes up will always come down What goes up will always come down What goes up will always come down Watch your back and never come back You’ll be in exile

Turmoil in the streets Neutrality in times of tyranny is siding with the tyrant, they called Cower in the corner or assimilate or burn Subdued by woes of martyrdom Those who won’t follow will fall Those who fall will hang A warning and a pledge Violent chaos spews unwilling A paradigm for peace A spectacle for anarchy But not a choice for our lord Not by distance or by sanctum pledges Our allegiance is once to township and yours is twice for power For from the ashes of the burning palace will rise a mirror of ourselves And from the ashes of the burning palace Will rise a mirror of ourselves Ourselves Knock knock. Who’s where? Can you hear the shrieking mothers crying in the palace square? You couldn’t call it bliss, my friend Did we oust him for more than this? For smoke and heartbreak and wires of empathy? Streaming ghosts to make our fists the fists of justice While we indulge in the blazing sun The city still has a heartbeat Even if only in secrecy Words rattle and bloom in colours Hues of dusty orange screens while red runs away in euphoric ribbons Gasping for air Welcoming disciples preaching us new ways for better days And hoist our shredded flag Not knowing what it means at all, after all This is something everybody knew But what of our lord? The elusive and evasive You bet he slipped away A scamper out the city gates Cross checking lines of fire Off down the city road

Death Valley 04:49
Well the sweat, it is dripping In the hot sun, you could never escape You can fight it all you like But you’re sure to realise that it’s Death Valley It’s Death Valley It’s infinite Your presence here Insignificant Well the sand, it’s expanding On these hot coals, while your spirit decays You need water to survive But a desert don’t provide, when you’re desperate It’s desolate It’s infinite Your presence here Insignificant Where is the water Lost in the desert Desert Desert Where is the water Lost in the desert Desert Desert Lost in the desert Desert Desert Desert Some motherfuckers can go for miles Most motherfuckers curl up and die In the valley the heats extreme You’ll evaporate to steam Death, valley, heat A life of lies Exiled is our lord Cast towards death valley His situation grand mortis Exposed by his peers Caught red handed showing feelings As there is more to this Yet to understand the weight Elite minds not geared for such comprehension A sinking feeling as he realises his fate And on he stumbled Tired not broken Trudging through Death Valley As incumbent to The Valley of Life Innocuous were his sentiments But failed to find more meaning As he weren’t prepared for this Death stands waiting at the gate An impatient face Tapping his wrist watch Hurry up now Hurry up

Facade 03:39
I follow in this race Lopsided poker face Only my own space is Acquired after taste Forming in altered space Forming and morphing This facade Is growing and morphing This facade Oh, will it go unnoticed this time? I follow in disgrace Lost, tired, out of place Slowly my own face is a fabled sacred place Swarming with old mistakes, contorting and morphing This facade Is growing and morphing This facade Oh, will it go unnoticed this time? When the mask you wear becomes your face, you’re in trouble This facade has taken me for too long It’s only a matter of time This facade has taken me for too long It’s only a matter of time This facade has taken me for too long It’s only a matter of time This facade has taken me for too long It’s only a matter of time This facade is taking over This facade is taking over This facade is taking over This facade is taking over

Another Life 02:23
Old life Oh disarray Clean slate Time to go Lifetime No pride Down she goes Down time Off days Strange events Lost hope Can’t be found Once he burns Lay down And rest Once we find We’re face to face Lost time Makes me sigh Once we find Whole ‘nother life Another life Another life Another life Another life Another life Another phase Another life Another phase Another life Another phase Another life Change of fate

Swamp Lore 03:21
You’ll be detained At heaven’s gate How many lies? You’ll be surprised All the eyes as you’re standing on trial And the weight begins to bear down You’ll be accountable as your fate awaits you You’ll be replaced Out heaven’s gate How many lies? You’ll pay the price Down in the hellfire No need for purgatory That’s how we know it goes down Heaven’s a no go You’re gonna find out Where all the despots go Our lord in exile

about

"Our Lord In Exile" presents a unique and compelling narrative that explores the themes of power, corruption, and the fight for freedom. The album features narration by band member Ronnie Frew, who brings a powerful voice to the story and its characters.

Recorded in various locations during Melbourne's lockdowns, the album is a collaborative effort between Skube Burnell, Ronnie Frew, and Nathan Nicholson. The tracks feature a mix of old and new songs, including some that were demoed by recording ideas over each other and sending them back and forth.

Mixed by John Lee at Phaedra and mastered by David Walker at Stepford Audio Mastering, "Our Lord In Exile" is a sonically ambitious and thrilling journey that showcases the evolution of 808s & Greatest Hits. The artwork for the album, designed by Tashi, is a perfect representation of the album's dark and dystopian themes.

Listeners will be captivated by the album's narrative and its exploration of power, corruption, and the fight for freedom. "Our Lord In Exile" represents a new chapter for 808s & Greatest Hits, and shows why they are one of the most exciting and dynamic bands to emerge from Melbourne's vibrant music scene.

Through a combination of heavy prog influences and dark synths, the album delves deep into the narrative of a despot ruler who is overthrown and forced into exile by a coup. However, as power vacuums inevitably do, chaos ensues as bad apples try to take his place, leaving the rest of the downtrodden population to fight for democracy amid the chaos.
